Visualising the Rural

Exhibition: Friday 5th -31st July 2013
03/07/2013
An exhibition at Crown Gallery, Carlisle

Will the real rural environment please stand up? But what is the 'real' rural environment? Who gets to decide what's important or not, and what affect does that decision have on the rest of the people who use our rural environment?

These questions are fundamental to the development and use of rural Britain. More so than our urban cities, the rural environment sees many different groups of people using the same spaces and facilities for wildly different uses and reasons which, inevitably, creates conflict.

The works selected for this exhibition all, in one way or another, attempt to portray the thoughts and passions that these different groups bring to 'their' rural.
